FAQs for  DJ Dave:

Q:         Do you have Backup Equipment?

Dave:   Yes, 80% of my audio equipment has a backup running at all times at each gig. I carry backup equipment to swap out the other 20%. Due to the large size of my lighting equipment it is not backed up, but I do bring extra bulbs, cords & fuses for all of that equipment.

Q:         Are you insured?

Dave:   Yes. In today’s legal environment, some halls actually require that their entertainers carry insurance.

Q:         Do you wear a tux?

Dave:   Yes, not some powder-blue “Wedding Singer” tux either. Image isn’t everything, it’s the only thing. Most of the work I do is at weddings, so it’s a necessity.

Q:         How long have you been DJ-ing?

Dave:   I started as a mobile DJ in 1995, and worked my first wedding in 1996.

Q:         Can I see you perform somewhere?

Dave:   Sure. I play locally often, I have a demo DVD and you are welcome to inquire about visiting during the setup of an event local to you. I do ask that you do not “Crash” one of my customer’s weddings.

Q:         Can I bring my own music?

Dave:   Absolutely. If the music that you bring can be perceived as “offensive” to your crowd, I will have to refrain from playing it. (Honestly, however, I have never found myself in that situation.) Be sure to check my online song list, too, folks are often surprised at the breadth of my collection. You can find it under the “links” section of my website.

Q:         Do you let music fade out, or do you use an overlapping technique.

Dave:   No Way! Who would allow “dead air?!” I spent most of my college days on the college radio station; I also worked the Saturday overnight shift on a local Lehigh Valley radio station, so I’ve had some really good teachers. I have also sub-ed for quite often at local clubs so cross-fading and beat-matching are something that I really enjoy.

Q:         What’s with the all the video stuff?

Dave:   I had a “thing” for Martha Quinn in the 80’s. But seriously … The cool videos that you grew up with on MTV, VH1 and CMT are available to DJs now, and since I needed the equipment to do my music video montages, it only made sense.

Q:         Do you have a video of your work?

Dave:   Yes, it’s an amateur production, but you can see on the web from the link on my home-page, or call me and I’ll send you a copy.

Q:         How would you handle and empty dance floor?

Dave:   I have a few tricks up my sleeve … some you’ve seen before, others are fresh … I can give you more details in person, but since my competitors are reading this too, I’d rather remain vague.

Q:         Where do you get that really cool stuff that you give away?

Dave:   http://DJDaveKish.MakesParties.com

Q:         Do you do Karaoke?

Dave:   Yes, I have a great collection of Karaoke and two guys who are the BEST Karaoke folks in the biz.

Q:         Are you registered with BMI or ASCAP?

Dave:   Actually, DJs can’t be registered. BMI & ASCAP fees have to be paid by the hall or venue, and only for events where they charge admission. Since my work is primarily weddings, anniversaries, and personal parties, that never comes into play.

Q:         What if you get sick?

Dave:   I network with some of the other great DJs in my area, so I can leverage them, and their staff if that ever happens. I also have DJs that work for me, but unless I specifically say that I’m sending one of them, I am performing your event personally.
